The sculpture Rondo by artist Branko Šmon creates dynamics in harmony. Circular elements transform from one shape to the next and generate a dynamic movement around a central point. Integrated curved benches invite people to rest, meet and socialise, turning Rondo into a centre for interaction for the Oskar-Schlemmer-Straße residential area in Asperg. A central point for exchange that can encourage a dynamic of togetherness, like a circular dance or a musical composition - a rondo - with recurring elements. The sculpture is also a reference to the Triadic Ballet by painter Oskar Schlemmer. Schlemmer developed the concept in collaboration with the dancers Albert Burger and Elsa Hötzel and created the so-called ‘figurines’. The premiere of the ballet was performed in Stuttgart in 1922. The original costumes of the Triadic Ballet are part of the permanent collection of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. Rondo refers to the partially circular segments of the figurines and, like Schlemmer, plays with the relationship between form, space and figure. With its recurring circular motions, Rondo can also be understood as an allegory of our cosmos. The orbiting of the earth and the planets around our central point: the sun. The sculpture as a meeting point on a cosmic level that becomes tangible through human interaction. Planet Earth and the human being are part of this unique, vibrant, luminous dance.
